Stormwater Connection via Somerville Avenue

Please be advised that Shawmut Design and Construction will be executing the final stormwater connection from the entire project’s stormwater drains to the municipal drainage system in the street. The tie-in point for the project’s drainage to the municipal system is in the middle of the westbound lane of Somerville Ave.

This work will take place beginning Thursday, March 7, 2024 and last approximately 7 business days. Hours for this work will be 7am - 3pm.

Pedestrian Access:

To facilitate the drainage scope, we will install a temporary covered pedestrian walkway to provide a 5’-0” wide clear path paved with asphalt for pedestrians between the building under construction and the work zone for the drainage.

Work Zone/ Scope of Work/ Traffic Impact:

The work zone for the drainage will extend from the temporary pedestrian path into the eastbound traffic lane, closing both bicycle lanes and the westbound traffic lane. We will provide a 11’-0” wide vehicular travel lane in the eastbound, which traffic will have to alternate between east and west directions with assistance of police details.

In order to facilitate the work within the zone, we need space to operate heavy machinery on both sides of the excavation. This requires partial occupation of the intersection at Somerville Ave. and Spring St. During this operation, we will maintain an 11’ wide minimum vehicular passing lane, maintaining the two-way traffic, with the presence of a police detail. If the opportunity arises during operations, we will reduce work zone footprint at the Spring St. and Somerville Ave intersection

Off Hours:

During off hours, we will reduce the temporary work zone barricades and install steel plates over the excavation area to reopen two-way vehicular traffic on Somerville Ave.
